WARTS
At American Skin Institute, we offer comprehensive and effective treatments for all types of warts, ensuring personalized care to meet each patient’s needs. Warts are small, noncancerous growths that appear when your skin is infected with one of the many viruses of the human papillomavirus (HPV) family. The virus triggers extra cell growth, causing the outer layer of skin to become thick and hard in that spot. While warts can grow anywhere on the skin, they are most commonly found on the hands and feet. Our board-certified dermatologists begin with a thorough examination to identify the type and extent of the warts.
The types of warts we treat include:
- Common Warts: These flesh-colored growths typically appear on the backs of hands, fingers, the skin around nails, and feet. They are small, rough, hard bumps that may have black dots (tiny blood clots).
- Plantar Warts: Found on the soles of the feet, these warts grow inward due to the pressure from walking and standing, often appearing flat, tough, and thick, with black dots on the surface.
- Flat Warts: Smaller and smoother than other types, flat warts grow in large numbers, often appearing on children’s faces, men’s beard areas, and women’s legs.
- Filiform Warts: These fast-growing, thread-like warts commonly grow around the mouth, eyes, and nose, and although they are usually painless, they can be bothersome.
- Genital Warts: Acquired through sexual contact, these warts may appear as small, scattered bumps or clusters on the genitals and can spread even when not visible. They require specialized medical treatment.
We utilize a range of treatment options, including cryotherapy (freezing), electrosurgery (burning with an electrical current), laser therapy, and topical medications to target and eliminate warts. For more resistant cases, we may use immunotherapy to stimulate the body’s immune response against the virus. Our goal is to provide effective, minimally invasive treatments that ensure quick recovery and reduce the risk of recurrence!
